White
City All Stars vs Halverstown
July
29, 2013
White City went out to bat first on
a day that had some very odd weather changes. Skilful bowling from Halverstown
dismissed our opening batsmen for seven runs between them. However, our next
two batmen, Tom Davenport and Tim Shipman, scored 30 and 23 respectively. This
partnership was crucial to the close game it was to become.
This was also great
for Shipman as he had not been very happy with his batting up until that point.
Our captain Peter Oborne also had a good innings of 23 runs to further our
score. Tubby Shenfield had a great innings of 53 runs not out, in the
partnership of over 50 runs with Kit McCrystal who scored 25 not out. This
partnership was disrupted by a heavy rain storm, after which Shenfield and
McCrystal only had 4 overs to get as many runs as possible. White City Declared
on 162 runs off 44 overs. Then Halverstown came into bat, with notable performances
from Ian Walker (40 runs) and Monty (29 runs). These were scored very quickly
and turned the tide of the game. There was a great bowling performance from
Davenport, who took 3 wickets for as little as 26 runs off his eight overs. Hi inability to hold a very difficult catch encouraged a memorably fruity roar from the captain on the boundary. McCrystal also took three wickets, taking both Walker - to a catch from Shipman,
who injured himself moments later going after another catch – and Monty, to a
great catch by wicket keeper Ed Moody. It was another incredibly close game
with the eventual winners being Halverstown (again) with less than an over to
spare. The Ruddock Cup remains in Irish hands for another year.
